For those who are willing to take the trouble and hike with gear, the rewards can be great. Photographing salmon spawning can be exciting as the bull Chinook rush at you to defend their females from you, the strange invader. Photographing and documenting freshwater mussel populations in ephemeral eastern Oregon streams is an worthwhile challenge.
